Mouthwatering Indian Snacks That Every Food Lover Must Try

Whether you are binge watching the new web series or playing the new online team shooting game with your friends, your pass time is incomplete without some snacks on the table. Chips, pizza and cold drinks are the obvious go to but if you want to try something different this weekend, how about some Indian snacks. Despite what the media would have you believe, Indian food is not all about curries. You can find all sorts of snacks spicy and sweet, meaty and veggie, hot and cold, and anything else you prefer. And you don’t need to book a flight for these snacks, you can ask your Indian friends to bring along some or order them from an Indian food delivery & takeout in NYC.

Kathi Kebab Rolls

They are basically kebab rolls but with an Indian flatbread called paratha wrapped around it. The parathas are quite thick and flaky. Other than mutton or chicken kebabs that are the usual roll ingredients, green chilies or its paste and onion are also added. You can find veg varieties made with cheese cottage or soyabean nuggets for your vegetarian friends. These rolls are easy to pack and carry. They may be cut into slices to be shared with friends.

Bread Pakode

These are basically sandwiches made using fresh bread marinated with gram flour and deep fried in oil. Mashed potatoes are the most common stuffings but cheese cottage, boiled eggs and even meat may be stuffed. Peas and spices are added for taste. They taste best with some sauce. They really warm you up during winters and rainy seasons and with enough slices can fill your bellies.

Dahi Papdi Chaat

For a cooler and healthier alternative, try dahi papdi chaat. It’s basically some crispy bread and soft mashed potatoes dipped in sweet and cool yogurt topped with spicy and sweet sauces. Not only is it nutritious, it’s a great way to cool down during the summer making it great for outdoor picnics or when the argument over who got the most kills gets too heated. If you have the ingredients, you can even prepare one by yourself.

Namak Para

If you would rather have something light to much on, these are your best alternative for chips. These Indian biscuits are made with wheat flour, ghee, salt, black pepper and asafoetida powder. The end result is small salty thin sticks of crumbly and crispy biscuits. They taste best with some tea or coffee on the side.

Khasta Kachori

For something equally crispy but heavier, you’ve got some khasta kachori for the menu. These flaky round balls are made with all purpose flour stuffed with some lentils and deep-fried in oil. Cheese and jalapeno can also be used as stuffing if you prefer. They are usually served with a tamarind paste on the side and taste best with some tea. A few pieces are enough to satisfy you for the evening.

Palak Pakode

If your kids aren’t convinced by Popeye the Sailor then maybe these fritters will convince them to have their leafy greens. This snack is made by covering spinach with gram flour paste and frying it in oil. You can mix some green and red chilies pieces in the batter if you like it spicy. Some tea with chili powder mixed in will take your winter afternoon to the next level.

Tikka

These cubes of juicy meat are marinated with spicy tikka masala and grilled until it gets a smoky texture. The meat can be mutton, chicken, beef or whatever you prefer. You can even get cheese cottage tikka if you believe meat is murder. Tomato, capsicum and onion pieces may also be fried with the tikka for taste.

These are just some snacks Indians like to munch on during their pass time. If this list has made you curious about them do ask your Indian friends to bring some snacks or give a call to an Indian food delivery & takeout in NYC.
